Using Fountains in Children's Rooms

Using fountains in children's rooms to help soothe them to sleep, and as decor

Water fountains have many benefits, such as noise mitigation, stress relief, humidifying the air, and serving as a beautiful piece of decor. Many people like to have one in their home - but have you ever thought of placing one in your child's bedroom? You may be thinking, "But my kid would just play in it all day"! But there are ways to implement decorative water fountains into your kids' rooms so that they aren't accessible to the child - and there are a lot of benefits for doing so, as well!

Kids benefit from fountains, too! The soothing sound of water fountains can help your child fall asleep faster, and keep them asleep throughout the night. An additional benefit is that water fountains act as natural humidifiers for the air in the room they're in, and also pull dust particles and other pollutants from the air. The sound of the water can also help your infant sleep more soundly, as it mimics the relaxing sounds of the mother's womb - the ultimate way of comforting any baby.

Keeping your child's water fountain safe is easy! Just get a couple water treatments that prevent the growth of algae and mineral deposits. Check to be sure that they specify safety around children and pets. Just add to the water fountain as directed once a week. If you choose a tabletop fountain for your child's room, put it on a high shelf where they won't be able to reach it, but you can easily pull it down for routine cleaning and adding water.

Just keep these helpful hints in mind:

Ensure that the fountain is kept clean. Change the water regularly to control the growth of bacteria and mold, and clean your fountain thoroughly according to the manufacturer's instructions about once every 2 months. Remember the weekly dosage of water treatment, and keep an eye on the water level - if you let the pump run dry, it will be damaged. An easy way to remember to do this is simply to fill it up when you water your plants.

Keep fountains out of kids' reach. Wall and tabletop fountains are typically the best choice around children - they'd be tempted to play in the water if you chose a floor fountain! Fountains with lights and misters are especially fun for kids - they'll love watching it as the mist swirls and the lights illuminate the dripping water. Homedics fountains are especially good for kids, as they usually have pretty lights and durable designs. They're small and easy to care for, as well.
