Using Fountains to Relax

Have you ever noticed that when you’re tired, worn out, and need a break, you often seek the comfort of nature? We are all drawn to the sounds of rain, birds chirping, wind blowing through the trees, and particularly that of flowing water. When we’re stressed out, we often seek solace in natural surroundings such as the beach, forest, waterfall, or river.

Scientific evidence has shown that the sound of running water has a beneficial effect on people. It helps us breathe deeper and relax as we listen to it. Furthermore, it actually improves the quality of our lives through negative ions, which are atoms with negative charges. Negative ions have been shown to produce biochemical reactions when they reach the bloodstream, resulting in the alleviation of depression, relief from stress and a boost in our daytime energy.

More and more white noise gadgets are being produced now, with the intention of helping us to sleep better and relax. Pricey electric white noise generators, alarm clocks that play nature sounds, or recorded tracks of the ocean surf are being marketed to people who are feeling run down by daily life. In our quest for relaxation, some of us build waterfalls for our backyard pools, and sit in bubbling Jacuzzis – nearly always focusing on the natural sounds of water. These are often considered luxuries that most people simply do not have access to. We don’t all have streams or lakes in our backyard, or have the ability to make a weekend trip to the beach when we need a little rest and relaxation. However, there’s an easy way to incorporate the soothing sounds of water into your life. Decorative water fountains are the perfect means to introduce the benefits of flowing water into your home, office, or place of business.

Sitting beside a water fountain enjoying its sounds instantly transports you to the same mental state you would be in if you were sitting beside a babbling brook, but it brings nature to you. At work or at home, indoors or in the garden, you can close your eyes and focus on the sound not only to drown out distracting noises in your environment, but to center yourself. Water fountains are excellent aids to meditation and yoga. They can be used in children’s rooms to calm fussy babies and help kids fall asleep. A tabletop fountain on your desk at the office can work wonders in helping you focus, and melting the everyday stress of your job. Wall fountains placed in waiting rooms at a doctor’s office soothe patients as they wait to be seen. There are many ways to use water fountains to improve the quality of your life.

Specialty Living has a large collection of fountains in every style and budget, so that you’re sure to find the one that’s just right for your needs. Purchase one today and begin your journey to a more relaxed state of mind.
